Overview
Buddhism was introduced to Japan in the 6th century, and the copying of sutras began in the 7th, reaching its peak in the Tempyo period. Along with the In Praise of Tempyo exhibition, you can view the beauty of these hand-copied sutras as they change in calligraphic style and ornamentation with the transition from the Nara period to the Heian and Kamakura periods.
